Review by hotel critic
Kismet Hotel in Pietermaritzburg offers a promising stay with its well-appointed, air-conditioned rooms that come exactly as advertised-comfortable beds and modern amenities like flat-screen TVs, a wardrobe, and private bathrooms. Nestled near landmarks such as the KwaZulu-Natal Museum and Butterflies for Africa, the hotel makes for a convenient base for exploring the vibrant local culture and natural beauty of the area. During my visit, I appreciated the clean surroundings and the option of free WiFi, which was crucial for staying connected. I did encounter some inconsistencies with the reception staff; while a friendly lady greeted me warmly upon arrival, others lacked the enthusiasm that one might expect in the hospitality industry. As a wildlife conservationist, I value eco-friendly accommodations, and I hoped for a more comprehensive engagement with the ethos of conservation here. Despite the challenges, the hotel's proximity to Queen Elizabeth Park Nature Reserve offers a unique opportunity for those of us passionate about nature.
